Incorporated in 2002, Garden Strategies is the result of a longtime desire of its principals, Bob and Wendy Chrystian, to not only build their own business but more importantly to share with others their appreciation for a lifestyle that includes sustainable landscapes that reflect and enhance the homeowners themselves.
Bob’s attachment to the land is perhaps no accident as he grew up helping his parents on the family fruit farm. Following graduation from the University of Western Ontario, he enjoyed a successful career in the public sector for many years developing recreational facilities, parks and landscape gardens, including Wild Waterworks,Pier 4 Park, and the Waterfront Trail in Hamilton, Ontario.
Wendy’s professional life after completing studies at the University of Toronto, involved planning, development and management of historic sites, including heritage landscapes. She is an accomplished Master Gardener and past convenor of the Niagara Flower and Garden Show, the first major outdoor garden show in Ontario held at the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture, held in 2004 and 2006. Wendy is a past Director of the Grimsby Garden Club and coordinator of the annual Grimsby residential Trillium Beautification Award program. The Chrystian’s have participated in many spring gardening shows including Canada Blooms, and the Calgary Horticulture Society garden show.
Bob and Wendy consider it a privilege to work with each and everyone of their clients. In many cases the relationship continues beyond the initial project, as the overall plan is often divided into phases with a little something done every year. This approach has fostered many gardening friendships and has become a cornerstone to the business which the Chrystian’s regard as integral to their success.
Garden Strategies is a Member of the Grimsby and District Chamber of Commerce and a nominee for the Niagara Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2005 in two categories— Emerging Entrepreneur and Innovative Small Business. Garden Strategies has been committed to understanding its clients’ needs and aspirations for over ten years and continues to work to translate those wishes into a “garden to come home to”.
